PLS Seals

PLS SEALS

Benefitting from >30 years of development & evolution our PLS Seals have proved to be excellent problem-solvers in many industries. Running with 50%-90% lower friction than most other seals, depending on the application, the PLS Seal typically offers good performance & proven reliability in all applications from Engine & Drivetrain through to Wheel Hubs & Axles.

These seals are all custom-designed to suit the needs of each application ensuring long life & leak-free operation. Customer experience also shows much reduced shaft wear meaning that durability is substantially improved & time between rebuild is increased thus reducing those rebuild costs.

APPLICATIONS

PLS Seals have been used especially effectively for higher RPM applications where the inherent flexibility of the seal lip enables it to maintain full sealing contact even at the higher speeds. Many other PTFE lip seals cannot cope with the crankshaft dynamics of an engine at all RPM levels & many actually leak air under the seal lip. & into the crankcase. Ideal applications for PLS Seals include engine Crankshaft seals, Endurance engines (LMP etc), Superchargers, etc. Our long experience enables us to reduce seal cross-sections leading to space & weight savings in the customer assemblies.

For high vacuum dry-sump engine crankshaft applications we have developed our Duplex Seals to control the lube oil while reliably sealing the crankcase vacuum. These have proved an excellent choice for many customers who have reported a doubling of engine life between rebuilds, reduced friction losses & increased HP output.

Rubber seal design

BENEFITS OF
PLS SEALS

  • Lowest drag seal technology
  • A composite oil seal of a conventional style
  • Race-proven and reliable Suited to higher speed applications (crankshaft seals)
  • Run much cooler than most other seal types
  • Less degradation of the lubricant film
  • Less wear of the shaft
  • Technology can be extended to be used in most rotary and reciprocating seal applications.

Transmission Seals

LOWER DRAG AND REDUCED
HEAT GENERATION

Transmission shaft seals are used for the input and output shafts of all types of drive-line units including transmissions, transfer cases, Rear Drive Modules, Power Transfer Units as well as hybrid and e-Drive units. Since leakage and contamination are the major reason for seal failure, the retention of fluids within the system and the exclusion of external contaminants are key concerns.

Our sealing designs include conventional shaft seals with a garter spring, seals with a low friction elastomer sealing lip as well as PTFE sealing lips. The choice depends on the application and operating conditions. Our range of PLS Seals are designed to minimise friction losses while giving reliable seal function.
